On Feb. 22nd, two Indian immigrants, Srinivas Kuchibhotla and Alok Madasani, suffered deadly shot in Missouri. On Mar. 3rd, another United States citizen of Indian origin, Deep Rai, was shot while working in the driveway of his own home. Both shootings were acted in an obvious way of hate crime.

San Diego Asian Americans for Equality (SDAAFE) strongly condemns these hate crimes and calls the Asian American community to pray for the families of the victims who were murdered or injured on both scenes. Amid the current high-level debate of immigration policy, we are very concerned about the possibility of xenophobia. We urge FBI to complete a thorough investigation on both cases to calm down the saddening Asian American community.

“I would ask my fellow Chinese Americans stand firmly in solidarity with Indian American community in fight against any form of hatred towards religion, minorities and immigrants, ” said Tracy Wu, Board member of SDAAFE.

“This is a great country made up by immigrants working hard to achieve their own American dream. They deserve to achieve their goals with equal opportunity in a peaceful and law abiding society. It’s so sad to see their dreams suddenly interrupted by obvious hate crimes. Losing of social order eventually would harm everybody, ” said Frank Xu, President of SDAAFE.

Please join us in showing our community’s support for the victims by being an example of unity and calmness in the face of recent hate crimes.
